Speaking at his final Open Championship press conference before standing down from the role, Martin Slumbers, outgoing Chief Executive of The R&A, said he was bullish for the sport’s future prospects.

A former senior member of the team leading the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2012, Mr Darbon is leaving his role as CEO of Northampton Saints, the Premiership Rugby club, to take up the St Andrews-based position in November.

Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A and Secretary of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, is to step down by the end of 2024 after what will be nine years in the role.
