R&A assists worldwide development

Recent R&A contributions to golf development come to well over £300,000. The External Funds Supervisory Committee of the R&A wishes in particular to highlight the following selected awards: –

First World Conference on Junior Golf hosted by the Italian Golf Federation – Grant of £10,000

2002 European Young Masters junior event for boys and girls being played in Germany – Grant of £18,000

2002 European Boys Team Championship being played in Iceland – Grant of £15,000

2002 European Youths Team Championship being played in Poland – Grant of £15,000

2002 Caribbean Mens and Junior Team Championships – Grants of £10,000 to each event

2002 South American Mens and Womens Team Championships being played in Brazil – Grant of £25,000

2002 East African Challenge Trophy for men being played in Tanzania – Grant of £4,000

2002 Ladies International Matches being played in Zambia – Grant of £4,000

Australian Golf Union’s ‘Indigenous Golf Programme’ – Grant of $35,000AUS for first year. This programme aims to introduce golf in remote Aboriginal communities.

2002 UK National Association of Public Courses Adult and Junior Championships – Grants of £10,000 (adult) and £2,500 (Junior)

Ladies European Tour – Grant of £75,000 for 2002 season

British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association – Grant of £15,000 towards 2002 national environmental competition

University of Stirling in Scotland – Grant of £25,000 and loan of £50,000 towards on campus practice facilities

The awards are part of the R&A’s on-going worldwide development programme and are made possible through revenue generated by the Open Championship.
