Golf’s first online amateur order of merit

PGA European Tour Courses has launched the first on-line Amateur Order of Merit

More than 3m affiliated golfers throughout Europe will be eligible to log on, enter their details and compete for the coveted title of best amateur golfer in their own country and ultimately Europe’s No 1 amateur golfer for 2001. Entry costs £10 and benefits include regular player of the month prizes, features on outstanding performances and tips from Europe’s top players.

The AOM keeps a record of golfer’s scores submitted from competitions played throughout the season and compares cumulative results to award rankings. Golfers compete in one of 3 men’s divisions or 2 ladies’ divisions. The event will be marketed internationally with 4 administration offices covering Europe.

“We are delighted with the enthusiasm which has greeted the AOM in its launch phase,” said Paul Kimberley, marketing director for PGA European Tour Courses. “Research shows that golfers tend to be more digitally aware than the average population and we are encouraged by the response of partners we have approached for editorial content, WAP and Sponsorship.”
