Crown Golf sells Vale Royal Abbey

1.00am 10th October 2003 - Property

Leading golf club operator Crown Golf, which owns and manages nine golf clubs across the UK, has accepted an undisclosed offer from a partnership that includes a current member and local resident to buy its Cheshire club, Vale Royal Abbey.
The striking listed building and 18 hole Simon Gidman designed golf course with just 76 members, was acquired and completed by Crown in 1998. Since then the membership has grown to over 600 and the club has developed a local reputation for the quality of the golf course and as one of the foremost function venues in the area.
Chief executive, John Weir commented, “Crown Golf have been very privileged to be involved with the development of Vale Royal Abbey since its formation and in light of the company’s future expansion plans the club is no longer an obvious fit within the portfolio. We are therefore very pleased to be able to sell it on to a party who will see it realise its potential as one of the best private members clubs in the area.”
