Martin’s Golf Pass celebrates Tenth Anniversary

9.00am 31st December 2008 - Travel

Inspired by the exceptional locations of its hotels in Brabant Wallon, Martin’s Hotels created its unique ‘Golf Pass’ in 1998. It is a partnership between the four Martin’s hotels and eleven of the region’s most prestigious golf clubs (14 different 18-hole courses from 14 renowned architects within a radius of 15 kilometres) – green fees and the finest accommodation without any organisational worries.

The project, designed to welcome golfers from all over Europe to Brabant Wallon, was a real challenge. Taken up by John Martin, a keen advocate for giving a truer image to the numerous attractions that Belgium offers, the challenge has been a resounding success.

Today Brabant Wallon is a much sought after golfing region. In just 10 years, Martin’s Golf Pass numbers have grown from 250 visitors to over 5,000 per year. In total, over 30,000 golfers from different countries have visited the ‘garden of Brussels’ a mere twenty minutes from the cultural and business activities of the capital.

The golf clubs in the area are very appreciative of the extra business that Martin’s initiative has created.

Patrick Solvay, president and owner of Golf Hulencourt, said, “We are very satisfied with the agreement that we have with the Martin’s Hotels and the Pass Brabant Wallon. British golfers represent a very significant part among our foreign visitors which we take pleasure in hosting in our club thanks to their traditional approach of the noble game. They realize year on year that Belgium in an undiscovered and first class venue for short break golfing excursions.”

Martin’s look after the green fees, confirm the start time and create a personalised voucher. This is presented to the golfer on arrival with confirmation of the club’s location, tee-off times and route map.

Bill Anslow is managing director of Grey Owl Golf – www.greyowlgolf.com – and has sent many clients to Martin’s hotels.

“It is not difficult to get UK golfers over to Belgium,” he said. “I get very good repeat business generally and Belgium is no exception – I have several groups who go back every year.

“The quality is very high and there isn’t really any similar package to compare. The quality of Martins Hotels is very good and they offer very good prices at weekends and in the summer when the hotels aren’t doing conference business.

“There are 11 courses on offer in the Brabant Wallon region and so there is plenty of choice. There is nothing directly comparable with the Martins Golf Pass; it is a very good product which we value very highly, along with our relationship with Martins.”
