Antalya Golf Club’s highly-acclaimed PGA Sultan course lies in wait for the finalists in this year’s Golfplan Insurance PGA Pro-Captain Challenge.

The jewel in Turkey’s golfing crown will play host to the 36-hole final for the fourth successive year on November 21 and 22 – following a hectic schedule of 10 summer qualifiers between July 31 and September 2.

More than 500 clubs annually compete in the tournament which sees two of a golf club’s influential figures, PGA professional and club captain, team-up in pursuit of glory.

This year’s event, which is supported by Canopius – owners of Golfplan and a top-10 Lloyd’s insurer, will also have a tempting £25,000 prize fund.

Qualification for the tournament, which was first competed for in 1993, will begin on Wednesday July 31 at John O’Gaunt Golf Club in Cambridgeshire for clubs located in the East Region.

There are two qualifiers in the north at DunhamForest and Huddersfield, two in the midlands at The Vale Golf & Country Club and KedlestonPark and two in the south at Golf at Goodwood and Kings Hill Golf Club.

There will be one qualifier in Ireland at Roganstown, one in Scotland at Crail and one in the West at WoodburyPark.

Last year’s tournament was won in stunning fashion by Shirland PGA professional Ian Walley and captain Adrian Shaw with an eagle, birdie, birdie finish.

Simon Higginbottom, PGA head of tournaments, commented: “The PGA Sultan is one of the best courses in Turkey and earned glowing praise from Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy when they competed there last year.

“Combined with the superb hospitality of Antalya Golf Club and the Sirene Hotel, it makes it one of the most popular finals on the PGA schedule.”

Douglas Young, managing director of Golfplan Insurance said: “These are really exciting times for the Golfplan brand. With our long- standing relationship with the PGA and our new Partner status we are delighted to be hosting our first Pro-Captain Challenge. We wish all the competitors good luck in the competition and look forward to meeting them during the course of the year.”
