Principality Building Society, the biggest independent building society in Wales has continued its support of the Evian Ladies European Tour at the 2002 WPGA Championship of Europe, to be held from August 22-25 at Royal Porthcawl.

In 2001, Principality signed a three-year deal with the Tour, becoming the official financial services sponsor for the WPGA Championship of Europe, the third richest tournament on the Evian Ladies European Tour with a prize fund of £400,000.

This years WPGA Championship of Europe takes on the extra significance of being the final qualifying event for Solheim Cup points for Team Europe, captained by Dale Reid OBE.

Peter Griffiths, the Principality’s chief executive, was delighted to continue the partnership. “This is an exciting venture for the Principality Building Society. Our aim remains to support both golf in Wales and the Evian Ladies European Tour. We recognised that last year was a stepping stone towards achieving the ambition of bringing the Ryder Cup to Wales in 2010, which we are very proud to be hosting.”

Robin Gibson, Ladies European Tour Enterprises commercial director, said that more blue chip companies were showing interest in the growing popularity of women’s European golf. “I am thrilled to see that more top flight companies are looking at the Evian Tour as a vehicle to promote their businesses,” said Gibson. “The Evian Ladies European Tour is strengthening and with Principality’s continued involvement at the WPGA Championship, the future looks bright for women’s European golf.”

Founded in 1860, Principality Building Society is Wales’ largest independent financial organisation and has more branches in Wales than any other building society.
