Vacancy for Golf Tourism Manager

8.45am 28th April 2004 - People

Scottish Golf Southwest is currently recruiting a Golf Tourism Manager. This high profile position offers a unique opportunity to develop and market some of the best and most renowned golf courses in the world.
Formed in 2001 Scottish Golf Southwest is a dynamic partnership of industry and public sector organisations, all of which share the common goal of developing the area as a ‘must visit‘ golf destination.
In the past two years Scottish Golf Southwest has attracted major funding not only from the Industry but the European Regional Development Fund and the Local Enterprise Companies. This has allowed the project to grow and encompass a wider area, covering Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire & Arran and Argyle. The project has seen a growth in visitor play/bed nights to almost ten times the national average and there is still much to do. Golf in the southwest area represents 25% of the market in Scotland and realises around £33m to the southwest GDP.
The world’s media is going to be focused on Royal Troon this year, offering unrivalled opportunities to develop the market further. Current marketing strategies include a newly developed website, extensive print material and participation at all major worldwide exhibitions/tournaments as well as a full programme of ‘familiarisation trips.‘ The Scottish Golf Southwest team also maintains a close working partnership with clubs, hotels and tour operators in Scotland.
Scottish Golf Southwest is a small and highly driven team that aims to deliver best value and is already expected to exceed the targets set by its funding partners. The project is seeking an equally driven and creative manager to continue to develop the world class product they offer as the existing Golf Tourism Manager is moving on to a prestigious new role in Scotland. The Golf Tourism Manger will report on a strategic level to the executive committee of Scottish Golf Southwest as well as direct reporting to the chief executive of Ayrshire & Arran Tourist Board.
