In its 90th anniversary year, Moor Allerton Golf Club produced a spectacular Captain’s Drive-In from Marshall Newman last weekend. Looking the part in full 1920’s costume, specially made for the occasion, Marshall emulated the look of the founder member of the Club in 1923, Mr Abe Frais. He then proceeded to drive the ball straight down the middle of the fairway some 235 yards. An excellent result!

Sandwiched between two periods of snowy weather, the day remained dry and bright for the Drive-In and for the 9-hole competition which followed.  Mr Captain then laid on a great lunch followed by a prize-giving ceremony.

The day was very well supported by over 150 people and all agreed that it was an excellent start to the season.

Moor Allerton has an activity-packed year for its 90th anniversary, starting with a Hickory Shaft Challenge against the British Golf Collectors’ Society on April 7th, played in 1920’s costume and followed by high tea.
