Auto Trader founder pairs up with global golf event

The co-founder of the Auto Trader group, Paul Gibbons, has joined the global expansion of the International Pairs golf tournament. Gibbons, one of the UK’s most successful businessmen, is pairing up with International Pairs founder Ross Honey to help take the tournament to new markets and develop the tournament as a global brand.
Gibbons, whose company owns The Oxfordshire Golf Club, Chart Hills GC, Dale Hill GC and Sandford Springs GC, said, “I love playing golf and being involved with the sport and that is why I got involved with Leaderboard Golf Limited.
“Owning golf courses has given me a much better insight into the golf market in the UK and one of the most dynamic enterprises I have come across is the International Pairs. What I particularly like about it is the simplicity of concept and its global appeal. From there spring a range of opportunities that I am looking forward to exploring with Ross and his team.”
These include licensing the International Pairs across all golfing territories and the establishment of a worldwide International Pairs Golf Club. Countries that have already confirmed they will be taking part include the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Croatia and Russia
The competition is open only to members of golf clubs. Entry costs just £5 per golfer with twenty-five competitors being the minimum qualifying number of entrants at each club.
One of the most exciting aspects of the project is the establishment of a structure that will see golfers from all countries coming together to compete at a world final. Honey is delighted to have paired up with a man who has the same passion for golf and the International Pairs concept as he has. “I have been developing this project for five years and have seen it grow from an idea to the position we are at today,” he said. “In 2003 hundreds of golfers travelled to Scotland with the tournament and I have always envisaged the event being rolled out across Europe and into America and the Far East.
“Now with Paul’s help and experience we will be able to give more golfers more opportunities to experience the International Pairs. Millions of golfers can play in this event and we aim to offer them all extra incentives and opportunities to play the game we all love.”
