Southwell launches Golf TV show

8.06am 14th January 2009 - Media

Tim Southwell the co-founder of loaded and founder of GolfPunk is launching a new Golf TV show – ‘Show Me The Golf TV’, which will be broadcast on Setanta’s Golf Channel from January 2009.

The half hour magazine-style show will feature celebrity and player interviews, features, instruction, a USPGA Tour round-up, as well as a host of innovative content ideas, which have been created to inject a sense of humour into a golf TV show for the first time, and deliver a celebration of what’s great about golf. The show is presented by Southwell, and Sophie Horn – a 4 handicap golfer.

Also joining Tim from the golf world will be Sam Torrance, the former Ryder Cup player and captain, and Jay Townsend, the highly regarded TV and radio commentator, who will be the show’s American Tour correspondent.

The executive producer is Nick Small, whose credits include Top Gear, The Travel Show, and Flog It. Director & editor is Ian Ilett (Euro Trash, The Word).

Southwell commented, “I’m delighted to be working with Setanta to bring ‘Show Me The Golf TV’ to their audience of dedicated golfers. They share my vision for how golf can be presented in an entertaining and engaging way, and are supportive of innovation in terms of presentation and content.

“With Sam, Jay and Sophie on board, and Nick at the production helm, I think we’ve got an amazingly talented team in place who can really communicate their passion for the game, and share their knowledge and insights with the viewers.”

The TV show will also be available on Southwell’s new website – www.showmethegolf.com.

Southwell said, “Our website not only delivers great TV and video content, it also offers a complete suite of social networking tools – it’s ‘Facebook for golf’ if you like. But this is social networking with a real purpose – you can coral all your golf buddies into one place, and sort your golf-life out with them. It takes out an enormous amount of hassle out of organizing a golf day, and keeps you engaged in a single area that you all share a passion for.”

Robert Hart, whose company Bunker Mentality sponsors the show adds, “It’s a show for golf addicts, with a different mentality from the norm -which is an exact fit for our brand. We‘re happy to be in there at the start, and we aim to have a long association with Show MeThe Golf.”

Southwell launched GolfPunk – the self-styled ‘Golf magazine for the rest of us’ – in 2004. The multi-award winning magazine now has twelve international editions. In his role as Editor-In-Chief of GolfPunk, he won Editor-of-the-Year at both the 2006 Independent Magazine Publishers (IPA) Awards, and the 2006 British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) Awards.

Tim exited GolfPunk at the end of 2006, and set up Mind How You Go Media Ltd in May 2007 as a vehicle to develop other media projects, and launch Showmethegolf.tv.
