Easthampstead Golf Club in Berkshire is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the publication of a book that charts the history of the club from its founding in 1975 to the present day.
The club, which is based at the Downshire Golf Complex in Wokingham, has played an important role in the local community over the last 50 years, having been under the management of Bracknell Forest Council since 1999.
Entitled ‘Bizarre Night Rituals’, the anniversary book captures the initial birth of the club through the eyes of the founder members and what it was like to be playing golf in the early 1970s.
Progressing through the years, the achievements of members, the eclectic mix of competitions and social activities are presented in the 210-page volume, which also features many colour photographs.

The development of the course’s 6,416-yard parkland course, which was designed by Fred Hawtree, is described, together with details of past captains, presidents and notable members.
Special rounds are also highlighted alongside club trophies, Easthampstead Ladies, the club’s Junior section and details of the many local charities that the club has supported over the last 50 years through fund-raising events.

The appendices include a brief history of the Downshire Complex and a comprehensive Roll of Honour documenting the winners from over 2,000 club competitions.
The book, which took over two years to compile, was written and compiled by Alistair Smith, the President of Easthampstead Golf Club. He will be signing copies of ‘Bizarre Night Rituals’ at Waterstones in Bracknell between 10am-2pm on Saturday, June 14, when the Mayor of Bracknell will also be in attendance.
