Green fee scheme from Golf England and ‘Golf Monthly’

12.10am 12th June 2002 - Management Topics

Golf England has joined forces with IPC Media’s ‘Golf Monthly’ magazine to offer Golf Points – a new green fee scheme. Golf Points, which launches this summer, will benefit both golf players and golf clubs.

For the players

Players will be able to purchase vouchers from ‘Golf Monthly’ in multiples of £5. Every £5 will buy 500 points. The vouchers can then be redeemed at participating golf clubs throughout the UK with every 250 points giving players the chance to get two green frees for the price of one.

A number of prestigious clubs are also participating in Golf Points with players exchanging up to 1,000 points for the privilege of playing, with a partner, at such a course.

For the clubs

The major benefit for participating clubs is that a percentage of the revenue from the vouchers redeemed will go back to the club. Already, over 400 clubs across the UK have signed up to the Golf Points scheme, with many more anticipated over coming months. In addition, over 250 clubs who have signed up to Golf England will also be given the option to join the Golf Points scheme, taking the total participants from day one to over 650.

Dale Clements, marketing director of Golf England said, “The Golf Points scheme is not only an excellent way of enabling people to play golf at discounted rates but also, unlike many other green fee schemes currently operating, gives money back to the club.”

Jane Carter, editor of ‘Golf Monthly’ commented, “Joining forces with a company such as Golf England is ideal for a green fees scheme. We are anticipating a significant level of redemption which will result in the Golf Points scheme giving a substantial cash rebate to participating golf clubs throughout the UK.”

The scheme will be promoted in IPC publications and through Golf England’s communication channels; website, quarterly magazine, credit card inserts and newsletters. Future initiatives will include the ability for Golf England members who have a Golf England credit card to also be able to redeem loyalty points earned on the card for Golf Points, as well as offering the scheme to overseas players to attract visiting golfers.

Golfers will be able to find more information about the scheme in issues of ‘Golf Monthly’ and other IPC magazines
