WHS cross-border scoring goes live in GB&I

12.52pm 13th June 2023 - Innovation Centre

Golf Club members and iGolf members in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland can now submit general play scores from courses across GB&I courtesy of the introduction of new interoperability software.

Golfers using the various national Golf Apps – including MyEG in England and the Wales Golf app in Wales – can now add general play scores from any affiliated golf course in the three other Home Nations, as well as their own, to count towards a player’s Handicap Index. The new function also permits players to have their card attested by any member of an affiliated club or iGolf subscriber within the four countries.

England Golf, Golf Ireland, Scottish Golf and Wales Golf have all collaborated with technology platform provider DotGolf to develop this enhancement.

James Luke, England Golf’s Head of Handicapping and Course Rating, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to provide cross-border scoring input. Although, we’ve been able to manually submit scores through handicap committees, this digital function has been what golfers across GB&I have wanted and we’re delighted to be able to deliver on this. This means all users of the MyEG app including iGolfers, can now pre-register their intent, play, submit and attest a general play score anywhere within GB&I and more importantly with any affiliated member from the other nations golf governing body.

Luke added: “This is pleasing news for our club handicap committees too, as they won’t need to manually input scores anymore and will be able to monitor and manage their golfers through their clubs WHS platform. It’s been a robust process and working closely with home nations’ colleagues and our technology platform provider DotGolf we’re all very happy with the outcome.”

Hannah McAllister, Wales Golf CEO, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring cross-border scoring to the Wales Golf app, meaning Welsh golf club members and Flexi Club members will be able to submit scores from their rounds within GB and Ireland. Wales Golf hope many more members will download the app and enjoy all of the convenience and help we can now deliver.”

Scores achieved while playing in other Home Nation countries can now be used for handicap purposes
