Woosie chooses SkyTrak launch monitor

European golf legend Ian Woosnam has based his new indoor swing room around SkyTrak, golf’s most affordable launch monitor and simulator.

The 61 year-old Welshman saw a SkyTrak in action last summer, while making plans to convert some space at his home in Jersey, and decided that it was the right technology for his home setup. After the conversion, which was completed in December, Woosnam began to use SkyTrak both to sharpen his game for tournament play, and as a source of entertainment for golfing friends.

Ian Woosnam has invested in a SkyTrak system to help sharpen up his game ahead of a busy season on the Staysure Tour and his upcoming appearance at the Masters

“SkyTrak helps me to produce my best golf,” he said. “It gives me everything I need to work on my game, including golf course simulation. With it, I can now practice at home whenever I want. It’s proven to be accurate and easy to use, and also has a wealth of choice as regards golf courses.

“It also helps me to stay match-fit and keeps my game sharp before tournaments. I can also pick it up and take it with me when I travel to my house Barbados, where I can just set it up at my place over there – so it’s the ideal launch monitor for my busy schedule.”

Woosnam is still a regular top-10 finisher on the Staysure Tour, with his last win coming at the Dutch Senior Open in 2014. In 2008, in his first year on what was then called the European Seniors Tour, he won the Order Of Merit and he is a five-time winner on the over-50’s circuit.

Woosnam, who won the Masters in 1991, has been using his SkyTrak intensively in recent weeks, to prepare for teeing it up at Augusta next month.

On using SkyTrak for ball and equipment testing, Woosnam said: “I needed something which I could get my numbers on. And since having the SkyTrak installed I have used it to test different golf balls, looking ahead to the 2019 Staysure Tour season. It has also been useful when looking at changing shafts. And when friends have come around to play golf, it has been absolutely great. I have a wonderful social area now at home, perfect for indoor golf, with the SkyTrak at the centre of the setup.”
