New pump system saves course from fire

9.00am 5th November 2001 - Corporate

Pump systems experts, Flowtronex Europe, turned fire-fighters when a Portuguese golf course was recently threatened with devastation by a rampaging bush fire.

Vila Sol, one of the Algarve’s best known golf resorts, was saved from invading fire when Flowtronex Europe’s recently installed pump house was put on all systems go, pumping out more than 250 cubic metres per hour to the irrigation system on the perimeter of the course.

For more than two hours the system pumped enough water to the area of the course under threat to abate the encroaching fire which had already wiped out more than 20 acres of pine forest.

It was fortunate that Vila Sol had upgraded its pump house earlier this year. The old system was only capable of pumping out about half the amount of water required to fight the fire.

Flowtronex Europe is based in Hampshire. The company has recently established an office in Portugal and appointed agents for Spain.
