Marriott Hotels golf management diploma

9.15am 3rd March 2003 - Corporate

Marriott Hotels has become the first hotel company in the UK to launch a course in golf management. The course has been specifically designed to enable a group of its most promising managers to take up a career in senior golf management. Following an investment of £25,000, the Marriott Golf Management Diploma will identify the next generation of Marriott Golf Directors.

Four golf hopefuls have recently started the year-long course which is the result of an initiative between Marriott Hotels and Oxford Brookes University. During the course they will cover all aspects of management in a golfing context.

Marriott is anticipating that the course will attract a significant number of employees working across its UK golf function. The four students currently on the course hold various roles within Marriott UK golf and country clubs.

David MacLaren, Marriott Director of Golf, comments, “We are extremely proud of the fact that 90% of our senior management appointments within golf are from within the company. Establishing the Marriott Golf Diploma reinforces our commitment to providing a structured development programme and to maintaining our position at the forefront of the UK golf industry.”

Marriott, host to this year’s British Masters, is synonymous with the provision of first class golf courses designed in conjunction with European Golf Design. There are eleven Marriott Hotel & Country Clubs in England, Scotland and Wales with sixteen golf courses, seven of which are championship courses. Marriott is also hosting five events on this year’s PGA Europro Tour.
