High Street multiples target golf market

Halfords, the leading car accessories and cycle retailer, is launching a new range of batteries suitable for golf carts. The company claims that until now these batteries, now required in the UK alone by an estimated 150,000 golfers, have been over-priced.
Halfords, with over 400 stores in the UK, will stock a range of six VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) batteries suitable for golf carts with prices starting at £49.99. Halfords will also take in old batteries and ensure that they are recycled according to environmental legislation.
The VRLA batteries from Yuasa are designed to release steady power over a period of time and can be recharged after use. This differs from a standard car battery which releases a lot of power in a short burst, to start an engine. Golf cart batteries should be recharged after each round of golf.
