This month sees the 100th anniversary of one of the most successful business mergers in the last century. On June 1st 1905 the Ingersoll-Sergeant Drill Company and the Rand Drill Company joined forces to create Ingersoll-Rand. Ingersoll-Rand now has tremendous diversification from its beginnings as a construction and mining company with more than 80 different sites worldwide.
Herbert L. Henkel, chairman, president and chief executive officer believes that Ingersoll-Rand has deservedly earned its reputation as a global innovation and solutions provider, and that the company has played a crucial role in global business development. “For the past 100 years, Ingersoll-Rand people and products have contributed mightily to the advancement of global industry and commerce and, as a result, have played a vital role in worldwide economic development and social progress,” he says.
Today Ingersoll-Rand has powerful brands that hold market-leading positions. The company features a portfolio of worldwide businesses comprising an enviable roster of leading industrial and commercial brands, such as Club Car golf and utility vehicles; Bobcat compact equipment; Hussmann stationary refrigeration equipment; Ingersoll-Rand industrial and construction equipment; Schlage locks and Thermo King transport temperature-control equipment.
Many of the Ingersoll-Rand brands are positioned as number one in their markets including Club Car. The Ingersoll-Rand sector of the business that includes compact equipment and golf and utility vehicles represented 24% of the entire Ingersoll-Rand business last year, or a staggering $2,262 million.
For Neil Woodfin, Club Car’s sales director for Europe, Africa and the Middle East the continued success of the company is dependent on the same hallmarks of quality, market leadership and customer service that have contributed to Ingersoll-Rand’s enviable record of consistent strong financial performance over the past 100 years, “Ingersoll-Rand is a great company that manufactures great product that lasts for a long time. That’s why, out there in the market, the Ingersoll-Rand name is very well recognized for quality, durability, service, and exceeding the expectations of our customers.”
