Barrelfield extends Textron agreement

12.05am 18th January 2002 - Corporate

Barrelfield Golf, the management company for three golf courses in the UK and a further 25 in the Barrelfield Golf Network, has extended for a further three years its exclusive agreement with Textron, the Ipswich-based turf care specialist. Textron is appointed as the exclusive supplier of turf maintenance equipment, which includes the brand names of Cushman, E-Z-GO, Iseki, Jacobsen, Ransomes, Ryan and Turfco.

Inclusive to the agreement is a package of operational and technical green keeping training programmes to ensure that Barrelfield obtain the maximum benefit from the equipment. “This agreement renews the existing agreement for a further three years,” said Melvin Thomas, managing director at Barrelfield. “As a result, all of the golf courses in the Barrelfield Network will have the most modern fleet of maintenance equipment of any operator in the UK. We obviously appreciate the quality of the equipment provided by Textron. However, although we have the most modern fleet to provide the highest quality of playing surfaces, we must also ensure that our greenkeeping teams know how to use the equipment to maximum effect.

“To this end we have requested that, over and above our current technical agreements, we have a structured operating training plan incorporated into the agreement. Textron have readily agreed to this proposal and will be providing operational training to all greenkeeping staff. This will be undertaken by either qualified staff from Textron’s extensive dealer network or by the training department at the Ipswich headquarters.”

“This unique training programme will be mandatory for all Barrelfield greenkeeping employees throughout Europe,” he continued. “We believe that this and other current group initiatives will result in playing surfaces throughout the group reaching new quality standards for a multiple operator.”
