American Golf Launches Hunt for UK’s Longest Driver

8.26am 22nd April 2015 - Corporate

ag_garmin_logoThis May bank holiday, American Golf will start a nationwide search for the country’s Longest Drivers. Between 23rd and 25th May every store across the UK will be inviting competitors of all ages and golfing backgrounds to go the distance for the chance to win a place at the 2016 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship in America.

“We are looking for people from all sorts of backgrounds to come and take part in our first ever Longest Drive competition,” explains Daniel Gathercole, Head of Marketing at American Golf.  “This is the first of our season of events aimed at getting more people, playing more golf. All abilities have a chance of winning with a fantastic prize at the end. With a bit of luck we’ll unearth a star of the future and they might not even be a golfer!”

There will be one winner per store, who will receive a Garmin vivoactive™ prize.  The regional category winners will win a Garmin watch from the Approach™ Series as well as an invitation to the Grand Final this autumn. There the 15 finalists will battle it out to be crowned Long Drive Champion and win an all expenses trip, courtesy of American Golf and Garmin, to take part in a 2016 RE/MAX World Long Drive qualifying event in America.

“This is a fantastic way to get people interested in golf, so we’re delighted to partner the event,” commented Katie Harrison, marketing executive at Garmin UK.  “Long Driving is all about accuracy as well as distance so it’s the perfect fit for our brand.”

The American Golf Longest Drive competition in association with Garmin is the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at encouraging participation.
