The important efforts that Harradine Golf always makes to achieve high quality design standards, professionalism and commercial sustainability have recently culminated in further awards, accolades and rankings.
Harradine Golf has recently been honoured with the following awards:
1. The Best Golf Course in the Middle East – for the Abu Dhabi “National”
2. The Best Designed Hole in the Middle East – for the Doha Golf Club (15th hole)
3. The Best New Golf Development Project – for the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club
It was particularly pleasing to Peter Harradine that the votes were not cast by ‘biased spin journalists or golf luminaries’, but by the passionate Middle East golfers themselves. “Such recognition really proves that traditional values are not easily derailed by marketing and media spin,” said a spokesperson for the famously frank golf course architect.
In May a leading American golf publication surveyed 139 architectural practices and Harradine Golf was in 10th position for the number of new developments. The first nine practices were all based in the United States of America.
In July Harradine courses received more accolades when Doha Golf Club, Abu Dhabi National and Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa were ranked 2nd, 3rd and 9th most popular golf courses in the Middle East.
This time, the voting was performed by a panel of judges composed of golfers, journalists and golf industry professionals and was based on the criteria: design variety, shot values, resistance to scoring, memorability, aesthetics, conditioning and ambience.
A spokesperson on behalf of Harradine Golf said, “It is a pity that the Abu Dhabi Golf Course suffered many unauthorized, unwarranted, stupid and dubious modifications which is why it may have slipped from 1st to 3rd place. It still remains (for the moment), a very reputable European PGA Championship Golf Course. Created from hardpan salt flats, it is indeed a technical wonder.”
