It is an acknowledged fact that no one really has a handle on the size of the Asian golf industry, its true size in terms of real and potential business and the challenges faced by the industry.
An educated guess will place the total golf course population in Asia (including Japan) at around 6,000 clubs. A fix on the number of new courses in various stages of development is anybody‘s guess. And the number of golfers – this is a moving target which ranges from anything between 17 million to 22 million (including Japan again).
It is pretty much a guessing game and the time has come for all stake-holders in golf to come together to help develop an industry that is properly tracked and guided going forward. It is a multi-billion dollar industry and given the region‘s economic growth potential, the future augurs well for all stakeholders.
In response to this, a number of major stakeholders in the industry have banded together to form the Asian Golf Industry Federation. The AGIF’s website went live this week.
