Abacus Sportswear, Official Supplier to The 2013 European Solheim Cup Team, is designing a match outfit focused on performance and comfort for the challenging climate at Colorado Golf Club, Parker, USA.
Colorado’s weather in August (The Solheim Cup takes place August 13-18) is typically humid, with warm, sunny mornings, then thunderstorms and rain showers in the afternoon.
However, at more than a mile (5,870 feet) above sea level, the temperature in Parker can also change quickly in intermittent cloud and when the sun is low.
The Swedish technical clothing brand and pioneer of high-performance stretch waterproof fabrics has taken this information into consideration and built in function and features that will enable the European Team to perform at their best whatever the weather.
European Team Captain Liselotte Neumann said: “To remain comfortable in the hot, muggy climate in Colorado it’s important for the team clothing to be lightweight and breathable.
“The outfits also need to be light-coloured. Black or dark clothing traps the heat, which is uncomfortable for playing in, so it’s best to wear light and bright colours.”
In order to be prepared for the humid weather, abacus® is supplying lightweight, breathable layers, including its Forged polo and Mulligan fullzip fleece from its Spring/Summer 2013 collection, which are easily removed, enabling the team to adjust their clothing for optimal comfort.
abacus® will also supply each member of the team with its weather-beating Pitch Nordic jacket, Waterville softshell vest and Pitch trousers providing waterproof protection from the worst of the elements.
Chris Mattsson, designer at Abacus Sportswear, said: “The weather is a fundamental factor when designing outfits for the Solheim Cup. The golfers want to look elegant and professional, but functionality is of utmost importance and can swing the overall result in some cases.
“We work closely with Liselotte to ensure each garment combines the benefits the players want, with the climate control requirements for Colorado in August.”
