Having finalized the reorganization of its company structure in August, Hurdzan Golf Design, LLC, formerly Hurdzan/Fry Environmental Golf Design, Inc., has launched the first phase of its website, www.HurdzanGolf.com
“We are excited about the development of this website, which we hope to be a useful tool for clients, media, and golf enthusiasts to learn more not only about our company, but about the game of golf itself”, said Michael J. Hurdzan, PhD, Managing Partner of Hurdzan Golf Design.
Given the complex demands of the now international business of golf course architecture, Mike Hurdzan and his partner, Dana Fry, amicably agreed to form two separate companies out of Hurdzan/Fry Environmental Golf Design, while collaborating to complete numerous existing projects in North America, South America and Asia under the Hurdzan/Fry banner. As a result, Mike and his son Christopher M. Hurdzan, PhD, MBA, have formed Hurdzan Golf Design, LLC, while Dana Fry has partnered with former Hurdzan/Fry associate Jason Straka to form Fry/Straka Global Golf Design, LLC.
“We will finish our Hurdzan/Fry obligations to all existing clients without any interruptions or changes in key personnel,” Mike Hurdzan said. “We remain friends as well as colleagues, so this multi-year cooperative has been formulated in the fairest way practical. My personal commitment is to ensure Hurdzan/Fry existing contracts are completed and clients fully satisfied. We have been discussing this transition for several years and we all agree that now is the optimal time to establish these new identities. I am sure that Fry/Straka have a superstar career ahead of them and I am fully supportive of that venture.”
While Fry is based in Hong Kong, Mike and Chris continue to operate from the company’s long-time Columbus headquarters, with their primary focus on the North American renovation market. Central to this focus, Hurdzan Golf is developing a consulting services program – tentatively titled “Let the Drs. Design Give Your Course A Checkup” – aimed at teaching existing golf courses how to reduce maintenance and operational costs, improve playability, and increase environmental stewardship.
“Partnering with my father is an objective I’ve had since joining his firm in 1997,” Chris Hurdzan said. “The timing is right, and the succession feels natural. I spent 12 years in academia learning about soil, water, turfgrass, and the chemistry and toxicology of golf course maintenance, and now begins my “residency” – to get in the field, full time, to learn the nuts, bolts, art and science that are the core of this profession. My father has provided proven results to his clients for years, and ultimately I hope to add a second, far younger perspective that will further the value of the Hurdzan brand.”
