Sales of the innovative GPS watches broke all records for a single product within Direct Golf and were by far the largest selling item in volume over the Christmas period online, in-store and mail order.
“It’s clear to see that the Garmin GPS watches are one of the hottest golf products on the market right now. Garmin are extremely supportive and we work closely together to maximise sales through joint marketing initiatives,” said James Toase, Direct Sales, Purchasing and Marketing Director.
Garmin first became a supplier to Direct Golf in 2010 and since then the relationship has developed, gaining real momentum when the S1 unit was launched in March 2011. Garmin is now the number one selling GPS within Direct Golf with sales of over 8,500 units in 2012.
Gareth Clarke, UK and Ireland Recreational Sales Manager for Garmin, said, “2012 has been a very successful year for Garmin’s Golf category. Investment in product innovation has lead to a strong portfolio of Golf GPS devices offering both professional and amateur golfers products designed to improve their game. The strong relationships with Golf Professionals and key retail partners, like Direct Golf, has been vital in the development of this category for Garmin. We have some fantastic growth plans for 2013 and will continue to develop our products, offering new features ultimately designed to help improve the game of millions of golfers across the world.”
The news coincides with bumper online and in-store Christmas sales for the leading multi-channel golf retailer, who not only posted record sales figures for the quarter of 2012-2013, against a record 2011/2012, but record first quarter sales for the 21st consecutive year.
With an 58 percent spike in online sales at www.direct-golf.co.uk during just one week on the lead-up to Christmas, Direct Golf staff worked through the night to meet the demand of golfers wanting to get their hands on the latest golf gear and dispatched over 6000 parcels in the same seven days from their Huddersfield distribution centre.
Established in 1991 by British PGA Professional John Andrew, Direct Golf UK remains 100% privately owned by its founder. Now Chairman, Andrew has taken the business from one store in Huddersfield to 21 stores across the UK, over 300 staff including 50 PGA Professionals, a 75,000 sq ft warehouse and the largest, most responsiveness, database of golfers to become the leading multi-channel golf retailer in Europe.
Direct Golf UK’s biggest ever sale is now on, with 20% off while stocks last until noon on January 14th. Visit www.direct-golf.co.uk for more details.
