Meldrum House Golf Club, of Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire has signed an exclusive 5-year joint agreement with Textron, the Ipswich-based turf care specialist and their dealers for Scotland, Scottish Grass Machinery (SGM).
Meldrum House, where former Open Champion Paul Lawrie is the touring professional, is a par 70 measuring 6,470 yards, designed by golf course architect Graeme Webster who lives locally. Surrounded by mature woodland and with an abundance of attractive water features, the course is as scenic as it is challenging. It is set within the confines of a baronial estate dating back to the 13th century.
Inclusive to the agreement with Textron and SGM is a package of operational and technical greenkeeper training programmes to ensure that Meldrum House obtains the maximum benefit from the equipment.
“I am delighted to be a signatory to this contract which will result in Meldrum House having one of the most modern fleets of golf course maintenance equipment in Scotland,” said Bob Edwards, Chairman and Director of Meldrum House. “An integral part of this agreement is the requirement to ensure that our greenkeeping teams know how to use the equipment to maximum effect. To this end we have a structured operator-training plan incorporated into the agreement.
“Textron have readily agreed to this proposal and will be providing operational training to all greenkeeping staff. Qualified staff from Scottish Grass Machinery will undertake this, either on-site or at their Inverkeithing facility or staff will visit Textron’s Training Department at their Ipswich headquarters. On completion of each training course the operators and engineering staff will be tested and, if successful in meeting the standards, will receive a certificate of competence.”
