Golf guru Dr Paul Hurrion is to design an exclusive range of putters for GEL Golf, who first launched their innovative groove technology putters earlier this year. The Paul Hurrion Signature range will reflect Paul’s many years of experience working in the game of golf.
His specialist knowledge of golf has seen him work with top professionals such as David Howell, Lee Westwood, Philip Archer and Padraig Harrington. In fact, Paul’s first foray into club design came when he co-designed the Torpedo putter shaft which Padraig Harrington was using when he won the Irish Open in May this year.
“For me personally, it is extremely exciting to be designing my own range of putters under the GEL umbrella especially as the GEL putters are not only technologically innovative but also look modern, colourful and striking,” commented Dr Hurrion.
Golfers will only have to wait until early next year to try out Paul’s unique putters as GEL is planning to launch his Signature range at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando in January 2008.
At the same time, Quintic, an independent equipment testing consultancy, is to become a technology partner to GEL (Groove Equipment Ltd) Golf.
In a deal that was finalised at The Open in Carnoustie between GEL’s Alec Pettigrew and Dr Hurrion, the partnership will see the Quintic team working to ensure that GEL’s Groove Technology remains the best in the world.
Quintic will undertake extensive biomechanical testing on the GEL range of six models to make sure that the new brand is maximising the use of its unique groove technology, which incorporates horizontal aluminium grooves, in the design of each individual putter.
“Whilst we have 100% confidence in Groove Technology improving the desired topspin roll of a putt, we have brought Quintic in to make sure that we are maximizing the potential of our innovative technology,” commented managing director, Pettigrew.
“Extensive biomechanical testing by Quintic has already proved that the GEL Putters outperform a number of top putter brands and with Quintic on board, we will be looking to maintain our position at the cutting edge of Groove Technology and to continually upgrade the performance of the GEL Putters.”
