SkyCaddie, the leading golf course GPS rangefinder, has mapped its 1,000th course in Europe – Playgolf Northwick Park. Golfers at the celebrated course in Harrow, London, will now be able to find exact yardages from tee to green and every hazard in-between – especially important as each hole on the course has been set-up to Major championships difficulty.
SkyCaddie combines state-of-the-art GPS technology with precision-mapping by foot to give golfers the vital information they need to reduce their handicap through improved course management. Players then use a hand-held SkyCaddie GPs rangefinder – approved for use by the R&A and USGA – to plot their way round the course.
Jackie Hitchcock, of SkyCaddie, said, “We‘re delighted that such a modern complex as Northwick Park has become the 1,000th SkyCaddie mapped venue in Europe. SkyCaddie is an innovative product and Playgolf Northwick Park is an innovative venue. They are a perfect match.”
SkyCaddie’s meticulous mapping process involves walking courses and marking all hazards, their ‘to‘ and ‘carry‘ points, as well as all run-outs and ends of fairways. The mapper also marks ‘Fairway Targets‘ – a safe area off of the tee – and on longer and more difficult holes they also give another safe ‘Lay-Up Target‘
Added Jackie, “The idea is to produce the same information that a professional caddie would give to a player. Our mapping is accurate, detailed and up to date. You can only give the golfer this level of essential information if you have visited the course and walked it. Other golf course GPS devices use aerial photographs, but there is no way this mapping can be detailed and accurate by using just pictures and computer softtware.”
Jimmy Wallace, general manager at Playgolf Northwick Park, said, “Playgolf Northwick Park is the ultimate modern golf facility and SkyCaddie represents a new, modern way for golfers to get better at course management. We welcome new ways to improve the way golf is played and we think it’s very fitting that our unique course has become SkyCaddie’s 1,000th mapped course in Europe.”
