Groove Equipment Limited officially launched the GEL Groove putter into the UK market at Urban Golf Soho in London.
The use of grooves in putters has been a golfing revelation in the 21st century, and with GEL’s introduction of horizontal grooves in their innovative new putters, groove technology is set to revolutionize the putter marketplace.
Exhaustive laboratory testing has proved that grooved putter faces produce greater grip with the golf ball at the moment of impact, therefore enhancing a putter’s ability to produce the desired topspin roll on the ball. Whereas previous grooved putters have used C-Grooves, GEL has improved the technology by introducing horizontal, precision-cut grooves to generate an even better topspin roll.
Further improvement on previous grooved putters has been generated by feedback from Tour professionals, resulting in the larger, heavier and beautifully balanced heads of the GEL putters, which encourage a smoother and more rhythmical putting stroke.
Says Alec Pettigrew, managing director of Groove Equipment Ltd, “In addition to promoting the GEL Putter, we are keen to publicise grooved putters in general and make sure people know what they do and how they work. At the moment, people may be aware of grooved putters, and increasingly so, but the real message that we are aiming to spread more widely is what grooved putters actually do that non-grooved putters don’t, and of course how they can improve your game.
“Given the number of strokes that putting can add to a round of golf, and the beneficial effect that grooves can have on a player’s putting, I am confident that the potential for grooved putters is enormous.”
GEL putters are all built from 431 stainless steel with a Black Nickel finish. They also have an aluminium putter face insert, which is softer and more responsive than the stainless steel face inserts of other groove putters. Of the six models in the GEL range, two putters come in ladies specifications and three in left-handed specifications.
The eye-catching putters, which come in bright blue and yellow WINN grips for men and blue and pink for ladies, have been named after the most sought-after precious stones, namely Ruby, Diamond, Opal, Emerald, Sapphire and Jade. The face inserts are also coloured blue and pink respectively, making the putters look as great as they play.
Confirmed orders for GEL putters had already been received from retailers internationally by the end of 2006, which bodes well for GEL’s launch year in 2007.
