The Golfalot Price Index has launched a USA price index to complement its UK price index to allow the golf industry to compare price trends on both sides of the Atlantic. The USA index operates in the same way as the UK index by tracking the prices of the latest model(s) from each manufacturer are chosen as they reach the market. Therefore the models tracked always reflect pricing on what the serious golfer wants – the latest technology. Prices are taken from Golfalot.com’s market leading golf equipment price comparison service in the UK and USA.
The UK index fell by 0.7% due to big falls in the shoes category (-3%) and in the driver category (-6%) as old models were discounted to make way for the new 2007 models. On the positive side, there was a 4% increase in wedges as new models from Mizuno, TaylorMade and Yonex hit the shelves.
The USA index suffered more with a 2.5% drop in prices as every category posted red numbers. The biggest losers were putters (-7.3%), bags (-5.3%), Irons (-3.25%) and drivers (-3%). As new products arrive in the USA before the UK it looks like the discounting of older products is further down the line and we would expect his trend to be reversed in the new year as we are already seeing new models of irons and drivers appearing in US stores.
