With the Open Championship coming back to Hoylake in 2006, the famous Royal Liverpool Golf Club has carried out major enhancements to every aspect of its operation, from the course to the clubhouse.
The refurbishment of the clubhouse has also enabled the club to undertake a complete review and upgrade of its management systems, and Open Solutions, technology partners to leading UK golf clubs, was the company selected to carry it out.
The review identified new requirements for the technology used to help manage the club and clubhouse operations. Group Captain Chris Moore, the Secretary of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, explains, “It meant finding a system that was significantly more flexible and more readily adaptable to our new set of needs. We also wanted more reliability, and more effective support. But most of all, we wanted a system that was genuinely and completely integrated, from the tills, through the Club’s administration, to control of the doors.
‘The GPOS system stands to deliver all of these aspects, and promises to be an impressive step forward for the Club. To date, the main focus has been the bar and catering operations, but access control with smart proximity cards will be installed in this month, and the whole system will then be running off the same membership database.
“But even though it is early days, my team in the bars like the GPOS tills and find them easier and faster to operate. The data is more easily visible, and the reports are more flexible – we can take whatever reports we want off the system.
“The GPOS system also has ‘stretch’ – it will be able to grow with the club as we move forward. But it is the complete integration aspect that I really like – membership and subscriptions, bar and catering, secretarial resource, competitions and handicaps,
booking facilities – all of these are now fully integrated and working together to make my team’s working lives that little bit easier.”
