TaylorMade say that the introduction of the new rac TP Forged iron is a clear and genuine expression of TaylorMade’s commitment to providing tour pros and skilled players with an iron that combines beauty, playability and workability. The letters TP stand for “Tour Preferred” because, like the rest of TaylorMade’s TP line of golf equipment, every aspect of the rac TP Forged was honed with the input and feedback of some of the best tour pros in the world. It is, in both looks and performance, a clear expression of TaylorMade’s commitment to authenticity with high performance.
The TP Forged incorporates a new, superior application of TaylorMade’s patented rac technology, which allows TaylorMade engineers to direct impact vibration to strategic areas of the clubhead to deliver unparalleled feel. In the two years since it was introduced, TaylorMade engineers have perfected the use of rac technology, resulting in more effective vibration control. Key to this superior rac performance is the shape of the TP Forged’s cavity pad and its precisely designed Feel Pockets. These Feel Pockets work in concert with the muscular cavity pad to dispose efficiently of unwanted vibration to promote “extraordinary feel at impact; the kind of feel associated with a traditional ‘muscleback‘ blade.”
Meanwhile the TP Forged’s perimeter-weighted cavity increases MOI. The resulting “muscle-cavity” design allows the TP Forged to deliver a remarkable combination of feel, forgiveness and workability. And the sophisticated features and details of the cavity, including the Feel Pockets and cavity pad, are CNC-milled to exacting tolerances, to ensure that the performance is consistent from one club to the next.
Crafted of carbon steel and finished with a nickel-chrome plating, the TP Forged is created via a two-step process known as coin-forging. The first step forms the rough shape of the clubhead, and the second creates the intricate details, including the precise contour of the cavity, the shape of the cavity pad, and the specific shape of the tour-bevelled sole and the sharply defined leading edge. Both the sole and leading edge are specially designed to react with the turf to reward better players with an incomparably pure ball-striking experience. Traditionally sized, the TP Forged incorporates a strikingly slender top line and minimal progressive offset, which work in concert to give the player “visual confirmation” at address that this iron is powerful, playable and workable.
The lines of the rac TP Forged are clean and classic, yet at the same time fresh and modern, making it one of the most eye-catching irons in the industry. But its beauty is far more than skin deep, as this club is engineered to combine remarkable feel with exceptional control. The more classically positioned centre of gravity is located higher than in either the new rac LT or new rac OS. This higher CG location works with the clubhead’s size and shape to allow better players to easily control their trajectory to hit the ball higher and lower. In addition, the classic shape of the TP Forged and its forward-placed CG both give the player the ability to work the ball to the right or left.
The rac TP Forged is equipped with ‘Dynamic Gold‘ steel shafts and TaylorMade’s ‘Tour Velvet‘ grips, both of which are favoured by tour pros for control.
rac TP Forged irons include 2 – 9-iron and 3 – PW. The recommended retail price for TP Forged irons (3-PW) is £699 / €1,099. Shaft flexes include R300, S300 and X100. Right-handed only. Availability at retail begins mid-November 2004.
