The Professional Golfers’ Association and RAC have joined forces to provide golfers with an on-line route planner to any golf course in the UK. As part of the arrangement the RAC will provide its hugely popular route planner facility on the PGA website.
Visitors to www.pga.info can click on the ‘find your pro’ button, then the ‘plan route’ link, which takes them swiftly to the RAC website. Here, step-by-step driving directions to their choice of venue can be downloaded.
With many clubs located in the depths of countryside and notoriously difficult to find due to lack of signage, it is hoped that the new facility will encourage more golfers to explore venues away from home.
The service will also help golfers plan their golf holidays more effectively and provide corporate golfers and organisers with hassle free directions. Users simply enter their current location in the form of a postcode or street name and the name of the required golf course to obtain access to comprehensive instructions, detailed maps, estimated mileage and projected journey times.
Commenting on the new initiative, PGA’s commercial director, Mike Gray said, “This initiative provides the perfect avenue for bringing together two highly respected brands in what we hope will be a mutually beneficial relationship.
“The new website facility perfectly matches our drive to encourage more people to give golf a go. Quite often the name of a club is not necessarily indicative of where it is located, which can be more than a little off putting to someone thinking of going along for the first time. By linking up with the RAC route planner facility, we can make the first step just that little bit simpler.”
RAC business development manager, Andrew Lamb said, “The sheer number of visitors to www.rac.co.uk using the route planner facility is testament to its popularity and overall success.
“By working with PGA to link to golf courses throughout the country we are able to offer the facility to even more people around the country. I’m confident the tried and tested formula will be popular with golfing enthusiasts and motorists alike.”
