Great Detail, owners of golf simulator platform Awesome Golf, have partnered with the climate change collective, Ecologi, to reduce their impact on the planet and become a carbon negative business.
They have also implemented a programme that offsets the business’s future emissions and introduced a tree planting scheme linked to every Awesome Golf app download.
Working with Ecologi the team were able to calculate the total tonnage of CO2 generated during their personal and work lives since the company’s inception three years ago. This amounted to 54 tonnes and was off-set, enabling Great Detail to attain Carbon Neutral status. Becoming Carbon Negative, also known as Climate Positive, has been possible thanks to an Ecologi programme that offsets future emissions for each employee by planting trees.
This activity is being further enhanced by the introduction of a tree planting scheme linked to every Awesome Golf app download. For every download a native and biodiverse mix of tree species in Ecologi’s planting sites around the world. These planting projects help to support local communities and reduce poverty by employing local workers.
“This programme covers more than what we actually emit according to Ecologi’s business survey, so we can officially say we are a Climate Positive company,” explains owner of the business Gavin Hamer. “One of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees. They are also crucial in preventing ecological collapse which is why this simple scheme is so important and effective.”
Ecologi was set up by a group of friends who wanted to empower others to take positive collaborative action to combat the climate crisis. Their service allows individuals and businesses to identify their own carbon footprint and introduce programmes to address it.
Great Detail, alongside thousands of businesses across the world, pay a subscription on behalf of their employees. The money generated from this is spent on a brand range of projects around the world that are able to evidence that they are reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“What impressed us the most about Ecologi is their belief that collective action can make real and lasting change,” said Hamer. “By pooling our resources with other likeminded individuals and businesses through Ecologi we can make a tangible difference and keep track of everything we achieve through a dedicated page for the business, which is really motivating.”
