The status of Terras da Comporta in the global golf tourism sector has reached new heights after the Portuguese venue was named in a respected industry list of the world’s best golf resorts for the first time.
Terras da Comporta – which was launched three years ago and features two 18-hole championship layouts, The Dunas Course and The Torre Course – was one of 21 new venues to debut in US magazine Golf.com’s updated poll of the ‘Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World’.
Compiled by the staff of Golf Magazine, the prestigious list celebrates an elite collection of established and emerging golf resorts across the world, combining the quality of the golf experience with accommodation, hospitality and the wider destination offering.
Announcing its decision, the magazine’s panel said: “The upscale beach community of Comporta, south of Lisbon, has been called Portugal’s answer to the Hamptons, with piney, sandy land kissed by ocean breezes. What it didn’t always have was world-class golf. That changed in 2023, with the opening of the Dunas Golf Course, an 18-hole championship course designed by David McLay-Kidd and seamlessly woven into the rolling dunes. A second 18, by Sergio Garcia, has since rounded out the golf menu at a destination that offers a rare combination of contemporary luxury, nature and an effortless resort lifestyle.”

Rodrigo Ulrich, golf general manager for Vanguard Properties, said: “To be given this accolade by Golf.com for the first time is a tremendous endorsement of what we are creating here at Terras da Comporta, and a further demonstration of the strength of our vision and the quality of the overall experience we offer.
“Our ambition has always been to create something that goes beyond exceptional golf, bringing together world-class course design, nature, sustainability, hospitality and an authentic sense of place. This new ranking is another important milestone for Terras da Comporta and underlines our growing reputation on the international golf stage.”
