Personal invitation to 30,000 golfers

9.30am 27th July 2001 - Travel

The Irish Tourist Board has sent postcards to keen golfers across Britain. The promotion comes after only one reported case of Foot & Mouth disease in the Irish Republic which meant that the virus had little impact on golf in the ‘Emerald Isle’ where there are over 400 18 hole courses.

The last ten years or so has seen the development of many major new courses in Ireland, some well-publicised through their hosting of high profile tournaments but including other ‘hidden gems’ which suit every standard of golfer.

John Lahiffe from the Irish Tourist Board commented, “Feedback from golf courses around the country in relation to overseas visitors is very positive. The number of visiting golfers from Britain is increasing as the word spreads. With the number of courses we have in Ireland there’s plenty of room for everyone.”
