International memberships at Bearwood Lakes

7.50am 3rd June 2004 - Travel

Bearwood Lakes Golf Club, one of the few truly private clubs in Europe and set in the rolling countryside of Royal Berkshire, is to offer a limited number of memberships to golfers not permanently resident in the United Kingdom.
The International Membership gesture will allow successful candidates to enjoy the benefits of this exclusive establishment, which has been described as “an oasis of calm and beauty” even though situated within easy access of Heathrow airport and Central London.
The course, which is only open to visitors by invitation of a member, was designed by Martin Hawtree, third generation member of the influential dynasty of golf architects whose outstanding work can be seen all over the world. It was opened in 1996 and immediately met with widespread approval and voted one of the best courses in the United Kingdom.
It has attracted some of the most discerning golfers in the world including nearby residents Nick Faldo, winner of six major championships, Colin Montgomerie, leading professional in Europe for seven successive seasons, Bernard Gallacher, the victorious Ryder Cup captain, and Barry Lane another Ryder Cup stalwart who recently captured the British Masters title. The club’s membership also includes respected figures from other sports and the world of entertainment who value its ambience and privacy.
However the reputation of Bearwood Lakes extends beyond its golfing excellence.. The guiding philosophy of the club is that it serves as a haven where members, their family and friends can relax in tranquil, comfortable and private surroundings.
David Newling Ward, chairman of Bearwood Lakes, says,” Rarely has there been such an opportunity to be invited to join one of the finest clubs in the world, famous because of the prestige and standing of its full complement of members. It is therefore very important to understand that international memberships are limited.
