Costa Navarino tops the charts in Golf World’s 100 Best European Resorts for 2022

10.19am 2nd November 2022 - Travel

Costa Navarino has been rewarded for a period of continued investment after claiming first place in Golf World’s ranking of the ‘Top 100 Resorts in Continental Europe’.

Alongside the opening of two new 18-hole signature golf courses at Navarino Hills – designed by two-time Masters champion and Ryder Cup legend José María Olazábal – this year marked the launch of the lifestyle resort W Costa Navarino, located in Navarino Waterfront, the destination’s newest integrated resort area.

In addition, the destination will add to its offering next spring with the unveiling of the Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino at the Navarino Bay area and the opening of Navarino Agora, marketplace featuring a wide choice of shops, open-air stalls, street food, outdoor cinema and live events.

Assessed over four different categories – golf courses, accommodation, amenities and setting – Costa Navarino scored highly in each to amass an overall total of 91 points out of 100.

Chris Bertram, chairman of the Top 100 panel, said: “Two years ago we said that the addition of not one but two new courses at Costa Navarino would likely make it an irresistible number one, and so it has proven. The opening of The International Olympic Academy Golf Course and The Hills Course, both by José María Olazábal, gives Costa Navarino 72 holes of high-class golf to add to its comprehensive accommodation and amenity offerings.”

Costa Navarino was launched in 2010 with the aim of developing a sustainable tourism destination in the Greek region of Messinia, in southwest Peloponnese. The destination is now a reality with four 18-hole signature golf courses – The Dunes Course, The Bay Course, and the two layouts at Navarino Hills, all within a 13km maximum distance – three five-star hotels across distinct resort areas, and an array of leisure and sports facilities combining to make it Europe’s newest golf destination.

Nuno Sepulveda, General Manager at Costa Navarino Golf, said: “We are extremely proud to be ranked number one in continental Europe by Golf World. With the opening of two new golf courses and the arrival of W Costa Navarino, it has been a remarkable year which further enhanced the top-quality experience that we aim to offer to all our guests.”

The accolade is the latest global recognition that Costa Navarino has received this year including Navarino Hills and the new Hills Clubhouse being recognised in Golf Inc. magazine’s ‘Development of the Year’ and ‘Clubhouse of the Year’ 2022 awards.
