A team of 12 amateur golfers will be playing 18 rounds of golf across five countries in just six days this June, all with the ambitious aim of raising £80,000 to purchase three new Paragolfer all-terrain wheelchairs which help wheelchair users or people with mobility issues play golf.
Along the way the team will be meeting local heroes, community leaders and people who champion disability or have a great story about how golf has made their life better.
“We know how amazing golf is for people of all abilities,” comments Cae Menai-Davis, founder of The Golf Trust and participant in the Going The Extra Mile Challenge. “This challenge is going to be hard work, so as well as encouraging people to cheer us on at their clubs, we want people to get in touch and tell us their stories. Golf is a sport for everyone and we want to show the world that it can be played anywhere and by anyone. If golf has made a difference to your life, or there is someone you think we should meet, get in touch.”
The team will set off from the home of The Golf Trust, The Shire London on June 16. They will travel to Bristol, through Wales into Ireland where they play three times before catching the ferry to Scotland passing through Aberfeldy, Pitlochry and Kirkaldy, before finishing their journey in St Andrews six days later.
Along the way, the team will play different types of golf courses, highlighting the accessibility and affordability of golf. The local people and communities they meet along the way will be included on social media channels and in a documentary.
