Ready for Golf Foundation Pro-Am

8.52am 9th September 2008 - Sponsorship & Events

The Golf Foundation hopes that positive interest in bookings for its 22nd annual Pro-Am in October will help create a record year for this popular fundraising event for grass roots junior golf.

Team sales for the Golf Foundation Pro-Am, held this year at The Buckinghamshire on Monday, 13th October have started well. Organisers believe the success of recent Pro-Ams and the continued support and sponsorship from The European Tour in their staging, have led many competitors to recommend the event to friends and colleagues. It is now hoped that further sales in the run-in to this year’s competition will help lead to the eclipsing of last year’s Pro-Am fundraising figure of £22,000.

Sarah Tennyson, marketing manager of the Golf Foundation, said, “This is a special day in the golfing calendar and golfers who are signing up to play not only appreciate the quality of the Pro-Am as an event, thanks to the guiding influence of The European Tour, but also that their entrance fees are going to a good cause.

“The Golf Foundation’s work in increasing the amount of golf available in schools and then creating better learning pathways for youngsters from schools to golf clubs and driving ranges, all needs funding. This event offers men and women from the golf industry and the world of business a great opportunity to contribute to the future of the game while enjoying a great day’s golf at The Buckinghamshire.”

On the day in October, teams of three amateurs will be joined by a Tour professional for a Stableford competition that will be covered by Sky Sports.

Last year, Tommy Horton, Jeff Hawkes, Carl Mason, Paul Way, Ian Mosey, Bill Longmuir, and Nick Job were among the well-known Tour pros taking part. The programme for the day includes champagne breakfast, dinner and a charity auction, with all money raised going to the Golf Foundation’s work in junior grass roots golf development (more than £60,000 has been raised in the last three years alone).

The Golf Foundation is a charity committed to the sporting and social development of young people through golf and works in direct support of the national golf partnerships of England, Scotland and Wales. This year’s Pro-Am revenue will go towards the delivery of Golf Foundation initiatives such as Tri-Golf and Golf Xtreme in schools, the provision of the structured learning programme, the Junior Golf Passport, at golf facilities, and the Foundation’s inner-city project, ‘Golf Roots‘, which this year is taking place in 16 cities.
