Monty backs new golfers’ road show

12.10am 6th April 2004 - Sponsorship & Events

In a bid to find tomorrow’s new superstars and attract new players, Colin Montgomerie who won the Caltex Masters in Singapore last month has pledged his support to the Professional Golfers’ Association ‘Bringing Golf to You’ initiative, sponsored by house-builders, Bryant Homes.
The campaign swings into its second year of action this month, to coincide with the start of the golf season and will mark the beginning of the Bryant Homes Golf Road Show – a purpose built 45ft mobile game improvement centre, which will tour the length and breadth of the country until September.
The Road Show will be joined by a team of PGA qualified teaching professionals, offering free lessons and coaching tips to adults and children. Its six-month tour includes a host of primary and secondary schools, followed by visits to a variety of locations featuring city centres, county shows and other major outdoor events.
The partnership between the two organisations will also see a repeat of the successful Bryant Homes Golf Challenge, a series of eleven regional golf events coordinated by the PGA at various courses across the country. The final will be held at The De Vere Belfry in September 2004.
Bryant Homes sales and marketing director, Andy Hurst said, “Bryant’s sponsorship is a great opportunity to make golf more accessible to thousands of people of all ages, from across the country. Importantly, it will give 10,000 beginners a free introduction to the game, which is traditionally only available from golf clubs and driving ranges.
“One of the best things about the Bryant Homes Road Show is that it doesn’t really matter if you’ve never played golf before. Whatever your level, the PGA pros can give you the right advice and tips to get you started or help improve your game.”
Sandy Jones, PGA chief executive said, “We were overwhelmed by the positive response to last year’s initiative and hope that this year’s Bryant Homes Road Show will encourage even more newcomers to consider taking up the sport and enable us to find a new generation of potential players.”
