Matthew Jordan to represent NHS staff charity on tour

3.17pm 25th June 2020 - Sponsorship & Events

HEROES, the charity founded by NHS workers for NHS workers, has announced a partnership with European Tour player Matthew Jordan.

Liverpool-based Jordan, who was named by the European Tour as one of their top five golfers to watch in 2020, recently won the BMW Indoor Invitational at Valderrama, a tournament hosted virtually during lockdown, and donated his entire €2,000 prize money to HEROES.

Jordan returns to European Tour action in July and will support the charity in raising awareness by sporting the HEROES logo on his kit, championing the organisation in his day-to-day role and by taking part in future fundraising initiatives with the charity.

HEROES has raised more than £1 million since the outbreak of COVID-19, supplying nearly 100,000 frontline NHS workers with sustainable visors, reusable respiratory masks, hand sanitisers, therapy services, financial grants, food supplies, and much more. The charity is committed to safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of those employed by the NHS by driving activity that protects both their physical and mental health.

Jordan, 24, whose home club is the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, is rising up the rankings and is currently 188th in the world. He won his first Challenge Tour title in only his seventh start at the Italian Challenge Open in June last year and achieved seven top-10 finishes in his first professional campaign.

Commenting on his partnership with HEROES, Jordan said: “When you hear about the reality of being on the front-line it really puts things into perspective. I am just happy to be able to do my bit in helping HEROES with the fantastic work they are doing to support people like my aunt and the countless others who are doing so much to protect us all during COVID-19 and beyond.”

Dr Dilsan Yilmaz, co-founder and CEO of HEROES, said: “Matthew knows what front-line NHS staff are going through more than most, with his aunt, Dr. Victoria Gauge, a GP at Great Harwood Medical Group near Blackburn. We are delighted he has agreed to support our mission, through these difficult times and beyond. Having his support just as he takes to the European Tour means so much to us, not to mention the thousands of NHS staff who themselves are golf mad.”

HEROES exists to support the welfare and wellbeing of those fighting to keep the nation healthy and safe during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. The charity’s services cover the physical, mental and day-to-day needs of all NHS staff, from doctors and nurses to cleaners and porters. The charity is calling on businesses and the general public for continued support, with more information available at www.helpthemhelpus.co.uk
