LET scoops marketing awards

8.30am 15th November 2004 - Sponsorship & Events

The Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour (LET) received four prestigious industry awards at the 2004 Gold Driver Awards ceremony for their exceptional marketing and media campaign at The 2003 Solheim Cup, when the European team victory over the USA was witnessed by almost 100,000 spectators at Barsebà¤ck Golf & Country Club near Malmö in Sweden.
The awards were presented at the annual meeting of the LPGA Tournament Sponsors Association and the LET took first place in two categories; Tournament Souvenir Program and Tournament Ticket Brochure.
The LET also won second place in the Radio Commercial category with its wide-reaching broadcast in Scandinavia which included the major Swedish radio stations such as Mix Megapol, Vinyl and Lugna Melodia and was heard by millions of people in all the major Swedish cities and even Helsingor in Denmark.
In the newspaper advertisement category, the LET picked up third place for their advertisement featuring children’s painted faces inspired by the youth initiative from Solheim Cup sponsor ForeningsSparbanken. The ad was featured in many major Scandinavian newspapers such as Dagens Industri, Sportbladet and Sydsvenska Dagbladet.
With a strong national and international build up to the event, The Solheim Cup 2003 attracted more than 500 accredited media from newspapers, press agencies, radio stations, magazines and television stations around the globe and the overall media coverage of the event was unparalleled for any women’s golf event and broke all existing records for The Solheim Cup.
The Gold Driver Awards have been presented since 1990 where the LPGA Tournament Sponsors association reward excellence for the best official tournaments on the American Women’s Circuit and this is the first time that the awards have been presented to an event solely run by the Ladies European Tour.
“To be recognised at such a high level in the golf industry is an excellent achievement and I would like to personally thank all of the staff and volunteers who worked on The Solheim Cup in Sweden with unswerving commitment, all of whom helped the event become an unrivalled success,” said Ian Randell, chief executive of the Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour.
The 2005 Solheim Cup will be played from 9th to 11th September at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.
