The respected media outlet, BBC Radio Kent has taken ownership of the Ladies’ European Tour event which is in its fourth year at Chart Hills Golf Club and the significant growth of the Tour event since it moved to Kent has proved a key factor in the BBC’s decision to give its full backing to the event.
The Ladies’ English Open has grown year on year since coming under the auspices of the Leaderboard Group-owned golf club, culminating in record attendances over the three days last year. And early forecasts suggest more of the same this year as Chart Hills prepares to host the 2006 championship from October 6-8.
David Walls, the sales and marketing director for the Leaderboard Group, said, “We have always had great support from BBC Radio Kent for the Ladies’ English Open, but now the BBC has taken its support onto another level.
“BBC Radio Kent is a respected medium which firmly believes in the value of the Ladies’ English Open to the region and the county in terms of raised profile, awareness and visitor numbers.
“It is also a great supporter of ladies’ golf and we are delighted that BBC Radio Kent has taken ownership of the event at a time when the ladies’ game is growing exponentially.”
Walls added, “These are exciting times for the ladies’ game – not only in the UK but across Europe and beyond – and BBC Radio Kent is joining us on an exciting journey.
“Our aim has always been to build up the Ladies’ English Open into one of the finest tournaments around, and we’re delighted to have BBC Radio Kent on board to help us do exactly that.”
The Ladies’ English Open will be held at Chart Hills Golf Club from October 6-8.
