Colin Montgomerie launches BAE Systems National Golf Week

2.00pm 20th April 2000 - Sponsorship & Events

Colin Montgomerie, Europe’s leading golfer, launched BAE Systems National Golf Week in the Millennium Dome this morning by giving a golf lesson to PY Gerbeau, chief executive of NMEC. They were joined by golf new “wonder-kid”, five year old Aaron Ria from Wolverhampton, tipped by some as the next Tiger Woods. Aaron celebrated his fifth birthday last month and achieved his first hole-in-one a few days later. He won his first junior tournament at the age of four, beating off rivals aged 14 years.

A team of PGA professionals will be at the Dome giving free golf lessons to visiting beginners and newcomers from today until Sunday 23rd April. This is the first time golf has been exhibited at the Dome and provides visitors with a new learning experience.

BAE Systems National Golf Week officially begins tomorrow and will run until 1st May. Nearly 500 participating PGA professionals will be giving free golf lessons to beginners of all ages throughout the UK. A special ‘Golfline’ on 08706 003330 will provide callers with details of their nearest participating professionals giving free and group lessons during the campaign.
