BAE Systems to sponsor National Golf Week in 2001

12.00pm 7th November 2000 - Sponsorship & Events

BAE Systems has once again agreed to sponsor National Golf Week which will take place from 7th to 15th April 2001. Tomorrow’s superstars will be able to take advantage of free golf lessons and learn about the game during the campaign, which has again won the backing of Colin Montgomerie.

National Golf Week is also open to adults of all ages and embraces the Easter holiday weekend and schools’ half term break – a time when youngsters can be coaxed on to Britain’s golf courses to enjoy free lessons with PGA professionals.

Sandy Jones, chief executive of the PGA said, “This year’s campaign was a huge success with more than 22,000 newcomers swinging into action under the guidance of PGA professionals. Next year’s event looks set to be even more successful and with the backing of superstars such as Monty, we are hoping that many more newcomers will give golf a go. It really doesn’t matter how good you are at the game – it’s an opportunity for everybody to get out into the fresh air and enjoy a character building game that teaches self discipline and requires high ethical standards.”

During BAE Systems National Golf Week all equipment is provided free of charge and complimentary lessons can be booked with any of the participating PGA professionals throughout the country.

“You are never too old or too young to start a new sport ,” commented Colin Montgomerie, “and this campaign will give everybody a chance to have a go at golf. Golf is about more than just learning a new sport – it’s an opportunity to meet new people and really enjoy yourself.”

Sir Richard Evans, chairman of BAE Systems, said, “National Golf Week 2000 was a tremendous success which was enjoyed by thousands of people around the country and next year’s campaign looks certain to match the fun that everyone had. The real aim of the week is to introduce as many youngsters to the game as possible but, you never know, we might just find the next Colin Montgomerie or Laura Davies out there!”

Further details about BAE Systems National Golf Week 2001 will be announced in the New Year.
