Road Hole Row

8.45am 11th January 2000 - Salesroom & Memorabilia

A row has erupted over the latest extension to the Old Course Hotel which will see 21 bedrooms being opened in May – two months before the Millennium Open. Various complaints have been made that the extension interferes too much with the line of the tee shot at the Road Hole 17th, but R&A secretary Peter Dawson said: “Our view is that the extension does not affect the line of the shot.” The hotel’s managing director Jonathan Thornton said: “We had agreement at every stage with the R&A and the St Andrews Links Trust and the plans were there for all to see.”
