Old Sports Auctions launch their Christmas sale which will be open for bids until December 18th. As usual, it contains over 400+ lots covering all categories of golfing memorabilia, but two major consignments make this auction particularly noteworthy.

old-sports-auctionsjp2Graham Rowley, Chief Executive, says, “First, many of you will be aware that the world’s oldest club the Royal Blackheath Golf Club was recently offered the unique opportunity to purchase the freehold of the golf course and the 17th century clubhouse from The Crown Estate.

“In order to raise the final tranche of funds required, Royal Blackheath is now offering a large number rare golf books from its extensive library for sale by auction, exclusively through Old Sports Auctions. A number of these books have been in the possession of the Club for over 120 years, many contain inscriptions which are both fascinating and enhance their provenance.

“Books like: Bernard Darwin’s Personal Copy of W.E. Hughes. Chronicles of Blackheath Golfers 1897 1st edition – The first club history published and a most important golf club history. Presented to Darwin by the 1895 Club Captain F.S. Ireland. Later owned by Field Marshall Robert Furber & donated to the club by him.”
