Sun Mountain reports sales spike in travel bag range

12.40pm 5th September 2023 - Retail

Premium golf bag brand Sun Mountain has seen ‘massive demand’ for its distinctive travel bags across Europe over the past two years, as golf tourism bounced back strongly from the global pandemic.

Sales of the pioneering ClubGlider model with its retractable wheels soared by 170% between 2021-2022, while the smaller KUBE bag that packs down to the size of a suitcase smashed the sales barrier by more than 330% over the same period, as travel restrictions were finally lifted and golfers booked bucket list trips more often.

Subsequent sales of both models have continued to prove well above average, with ClubGlider models up 58% between 2022-23, and the KUBE growing by 67% over the same period.

“Last year was by far our best ever in sales of the ClubGlider and KUBE models since they were introduced by Sun Mountain in 2010 and 2019 respectively, and there has been a massive demand for both lines in recent times,” said Nigel Freemantle, Managing Director of Brand Fusion International, the exclusive distributor of Sun Mountain bags in Europe.

“The impressive increase in sales of both travel bags from 2021 onwards demonstrates the strength of the Sun Mountain product quality in terms of design and manufacture, plus the performance benefits that so many golfers witness at airport terminals whenever they travel with their clubs. That’s why more retailers should be looking to stock and display them,” he added.

The durable ClubGlider Meridian model has been awarded the Golf Digest Editor’s Choice as Best Travel Cover over eight consecutive years (2016-2022) for minimising the hassle of traveling with golf gear. Dense foam padding through the top of the bag protects the clubs; the patented leg mechanism supports the weight of the ladened bag; and the pivoting caster wheels make the bag highly manoeuvrable. Pulling a loaded ClubGlider, with two exterior pockets and heavy-duty 2-way zippers, is virtually effortless. The Meridian model has a RRP of £289 and comes in three new colourways for 2023, including Steel/Black/Rust Red and the standout Sand/Camouflage.

The award-winning KUBE is made from a hardy, ballistic-style fabric in combination with plastic half-shells. When not in use for travelling, it folds down to the size of a conventional suitcase for easy storage. It also comes in five new colourways, including Tropic/Spruce, and has a RRP of £219.
